God sent many prophets to Old Testament Israel to speak messages of law and gospel, of sin and grace. Too often, their messages went unheeded and ignored. Today, we may still easily tune out the messages of God’s Word. In undeserved love, God kept his promise to us to raise up a Prophet greater than Moses or Elijah or Isaiah or any of the others – Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. In him, we see the God of mercy. Let’s heed Scripture’s encouragement to “fix our thoughts on Jesus” (Hebrews 3:1).
